student tax free allowance ?

i understand that some time ago a parent could make some sort of a codicil containg a donation to a college student and the parent or guardian could in return gain a tax free allowance for same. i have no other info on same or if it still exists or ever did. would be grateful for some feedback as i have a son who wants to go to a private college and it aint cheap. thanks

Deed of Covenant is what you are thinking of, finished years ago for college students, can only now be done to incapacitated children adults or children and over 65's.
