stud finder

Hi,

Need to get a stud finder as I'm living in a timber frame house.

Was going to get a Stanley Intellilaser Stud Finder 077260 on Amazon but they don't ship outside the UK (not sure why ??).

It includes a laser level but maybe thats over kill.

Can anyone recommend one or have any comments / suggestions ??

You should be able to buy one for less than E15. Then just calibrate it. All the other gizmos that come with some of these ......... just padding to up the price.
 
If someone could recommend a one then that would be great.

I did buy a draper model about two years ago and I was never able to get it to work. About 25 or 35 euro I think.

I have been thinking since that the build in laser level might not be a good idea - for example if you want to use the laser to hang two or more pictures then how do you find the studs once you have the laser setup ?

A seperate laser might be better.

You have to calibrate all studfinders. This takes a small bit of doing ...... so try again and I'm sure you'll get it to work. Over the years, I've used several makes ........ and they all have their individual built in sensors that need adjusting.
 
Just looked at Argus.ie and saw one for E16.98. There is also one for E75.59 that will find the same cable ........ but at a bigger price;)
 
you might want to get one that detects timber stud/metal pipe/electric cable as you probally will have cables and pipes running through the timber studs at various points within the walls.
 
Aldi is worth checking out .... I got one a while back for about €12 .... finds electrics, stud partitions. Stuff like that doesn't disappear off the shelves as fast as it used to so if you don't see it ask the staff.
