I don't think the more realistic amongst us ever doubted that a significant % of strategic defaulters were playing the system. The ever increasing employment numbers and surge in house prices v's the high number of long term arrears (both residential and buy to lets) allowed for plenty of evidence as to their existence.
 
Very interesting.

If you were a strategic defaulter in negative equity with some cash behind the sofa, I think you would get a better deal from a vulture fund than from AIB.

AIB should be willing to give you a 40% discount rather than sell it to a fund at a 50% discount, but I suspect that they won't.

Am I right in thinking there's more and more of a culture of debt write down coming in, even in the last few weeks, as if the banks realize they will need to write off some debt
