just wondering if anyone can recommend a stove for just heating a standard size room - not linked to main heating system and where the best place would be to purchase such

M.D. O sheas sell stanley stoves. The oisin is one of the smallest stoves for around 500 might be on sale at the moment for 400. You will need to buy some stainless fittings which can add up depending on your chimney.

I have this model and it heats up a medium size room to toasty.

I think other stanley agents are on their site.

I have no connection with them

I installed a Mulberry Joyce stove a couple of years ago. It's small but heats and area of approx 600 sq feet no problem. Here's a link [broken link removed]
I purchased from Forde furniture near Kilcock and it was around €350 at the time.

make sure u buy a stove which will burn anything and everything . a bag of coal is now nearly 20 euro , oil is nearly 1000 euro per 1000 ltrs and gas is nearly 30 euro a barrell. ( south east )

I have just bought a Morso Stove and saved over €800 by buying it on line in the Uk. It was delivered to the door, a lot cheaper then any place in Ireland.

I got a stovax insertable stove from [broken link removed] works very well, I only burn extracite, it's the business no clinkers!

Bren36,

Would you please post the address of the company that you purchased from in the UK?

Thanks

Jotul from Fenton Fires in Greystones, they do all other brands as well. No connection only a very very satisfied customer.

Aprox £1000 each 9 years ago, fitted in new build in stone fireplace. I have one with a back boiler and one without, would'nt part with them for the world. They are multi fuel and very economical to run.

I have some stanley's with back boilers fitted in some investment properties and the Jotul are dearer to buy, cheaper to run and easier to clean out.

Any advice on replacing an open fire with a solid fuel stove to heat water and radiators. Not sure whether it is going to be worth the cost and the inconvenience.

first thing you need to do is get a plumber to check your pipes. does your open fire currently have a back boiler installed. i started this a few weeks ago. I had a open fire with a back boiler. But when plumber called - i didn't have a pump for the back boiler - the pipes were 3/4 inch thick - need to be 1 inch and i had the wrong cyclinder. the plumber has to repipe from my open fire back up through the chimney to the bedroom upstairs, out to the hall to my cyclinder. I have to get a new cylinder and pump. for labour and materials - quote is currently standing at 2000. Get a few quotes - i went from 2500 to 2000.

every one i've asked say that a stove is way better than an open fire and that i should have a warm house when finished with a good alternative to oil. but check out plumber before you do anything - my budget sky rocketed because of the plumbing.

hope this helps..

Anns,
Thanks for your reply, I have had a plummer look at it already and the job is possible, we don't currently have a back boiler, just an open fire with most of the heat going up the chimney !!
Plummer is still to come back with quote. Does your stove heat any rads ? or water. Our plummer is reccommending that we just use it to heat water, not rads as well ?!
