If husband or wife stop working to stay at home to mind their children, are they entitled to claim anything?

Many thanks for info. We recently had a baby and my wife is on maternity leave. However, when she returns to work we will be looking at paying a creche about €800 per month.

We are just looking into see if it is worth her giving up work and what she could claim in doing so.
