If i were to buy a new house in another county and use it as a summer house, do i have to pay stamp duty on it?

"summer house" what a quaint little name for investment property i'm sure the revenue will buy that one.yes you do as it won't be your ppr !.

Might as well, just as a matter of interest did you pay stamp duty though ?

Ya - the house is 240,000 and we had to pay 4 percent stamp duty - it's a new house so i thought that we wouldnt have to pay the stamp duty if we weren't going to be renting it out - i was obviously wrong.

You would need to be an owner-occupier to qualify for owner-occupier stamp duty relief. Whether the second property is rented out or not is irrelevant.
