Stamp duty on ATM/Laser Cards if closing a/c?

Hi

I was just wondering if Stamp duty is applied when you close a current account in the same way as a credit card is charged the €40 Euro. ie if i close my current account will i have to pay the €20 Govt levy on my ATM/Laser card?

Yes, you cant escape paying I'm afraid.

The legislation changed on 1 Jan 2006 for ATM/laser cards, so you will not pay this Govt levy on closing your a/c.

You will only pay for cards you hold at 31/12 on any given year from now on. The same rule does not apply to credit cards.
