Hi,

Can anyone clarify what day is considered the Public Holiday for St. Pats Day this year? Looking at it from a retail point of view.. is Saturday a working day with shops open and Mon 17th closed or vice versa?
 
St. Patrick's Day itself (Monday 17th March 2008) is the public holiday.

Perhaps Im missing something here? St Patrick's day is Monday 17th March and it is a Public Holiday.
 
Sorry, I was looking at last year's calander!

Monday the 17th is the public holiday, though the religious feast day is Saturday the 15th (I think).
 
Oh Nige.....17th March is Paddys Day and it is a Monday.....so forget the 15th and the 19th!!!! (have you been celebrating 2 months & 14 days early, (or 12...or 16 depending which day you want to randomly pick)?

The catholic church have moved the religious feast of St Patrick to the 15th, for 2008, as there are some rules about a religious feast during holy week, but that does not affect the state public holiday.
 
Ohhhh, stand corrected on the 15th bit :

" Changed by the Roman Catholic Church to avoid conflict with Holy Monday that falls on 3/17".
