Spreadbetting main indexes tax free long term

Anyone held any of the main spreadbet indexes like US 500 for longer than 6 months to even years?

Spreadbets are famously labled as being bad for cost/spreads long term. But in practice how do they work out vs the 41% ETF exit tax?

Looking at it from a pyramid into uptrend type way. And the stock market has a habit of spending alot of time in uptrend.

Just wondered how bad the spreads work out in practice after 6 months or so.
I believe you get a discount on the spreads when you roll over the quarterly contract.

Thanks

I'd a brief look at costs maybe 20 years ago (yikes) when paddypower tried to open a spreadbetting business. (They wound it up after a couple years)

Basically a long term relatively low risk spreadbet - such as the Dow being 100 points higher in 6 months - was costing so much it wasn't worthwhile.

Charges are probably less these days and I'd guess paddypower spreadbetting fees were relatively exorbitant but it seemed at the time spreadbetting was designed for people doing same day bets which most would see as betting on a coin toss.
