Hi - I have a sony dav500 dvd and speakers system but i now want to change the dvd part because its giving problems. I have 2 speakers behind a couch with the speaker wire going under the carpet. So, short of pulling up the carpet does anyone know if i can snip the speaker wire and simply reconnect to the new system?
Agreed. You can connect an optical cable from the new DVD player to the amp to process the sound. Then connect the DVD directly to the TV via HDMI (assuming that your TV and replacement DVD has HDMI).

Thanks for the replys guys - im a bit of an IT novice so bear with me. If I get a new DVD player I can get a cable to go from new DVD into old DVD player and thats it (even though old DVD has problems playing discs)?
Then, do I disconnect scaart from old DVD (to TV) and reconnect to new DVD?
