Looking for advice on best way to soundproof two timber floors. I have 2 bedrooms with timber floorboards upstairs in a rented house.Underneath the ceiling I have an apartment which was newly done. The apartment ceiling originally was high so I left the original timber sheeting ceiling on the apartment, added 6 inches of sheepwoll insulation and added a new plaster board ceiling therby reducing the height of the ceing by 8 inches.I am proposing to carpet the 2 rooms over head.I was recommended to use a' Dreamwalk Underlay which has 46 dsm underneath the carpet .it retails at €125 per bag [18 syaure yards]. I had alrady purchased a roll of Silent Plus heavy duty underlay for wood and laminate floors. Some carpet shops told me I cannot use this under carpet, other have told me I can.
There is noise[ mainly impact] also coming from stairs in main house, it has carpet but no underlay. The noise was mostly impact noise on floors and stairs. Any suggestions welcome
