Sound Proofing Between Floors

I have a relateively new build in Dublin, and I used to live in a bungalow....so I have a new problem. The sound transfer of people walking around upstairs, or the odd squeaky floorboard is very audible. Has anyone retro hit a house to reduce intra level noise. I have carpets upstairs and we are not having insane dance parties, but the transfer is noticeable. And same the other way, if the TV is on down stairs you can kind of hear it. Any tips?
