Can anyone answer this query.I have been told that you can install a solid fuel stove and use some of the heat from the stove to heat other rooms of the house (heated air running through ducts in the attic space).Naturally the stove would be over-sized so that it doesn't stop heating the room it is in.I believe Stovax have this option.
Has anyone used this system.I would be very interested to find out if it works as it would negate the need for a back-boiler on the stove and possibly be more efficient.

Hi,

I cant answer your query directly. I have no experience with Stovax

I am currently in the process of building and will be installing a solid fuel stove with a heating system as you have described (ie. heated air running through ducts).

We considered using this as our only heating source in conjunction with solar panels for hot water. However we were concerned that we would not get enough hot water from our solarpanels in winter so we decided to install another stove with BB, to heat the hot water tank. There will be a circuit of hot water from the hot water tank to our MHRV for additional "booster" heat to all rooms if needed.

We were advised that installing a BB and the ducts on the same stove is inefficient. The advice as a whole (and we have talked to a lot of people) seams to be that there is little point in installing the system that you have descirbed with out good airtightness and a MHRV system.

It remains to be seen if our system will work for us!

Thanks Porridge,

I will be combining it with a MHRV system (if I go ahead with it).

Best of luck with yours.

some stobes have 4 ducts at the back, they may also have a fan underneath to fan the flames etc.

you could run these vents to other rooms etc, but remember that this type of stove will really eat fuel, the one i saw at the wekend also had baffells that can be linked to a thermo stat.

were doing hrv too and am getting my head around air tightness
