solicitors fees

Hi everyone

Just a quick question regarding solicitors fees when buying a house.
I prevously purchased a house (last year) and was charged €1,600 all in by my solicitor. I was happy enough with that price.

1 year later and the same company are charging me €2,500 to do the same work on another house. when i questioned them they said that "the land registry was different on this house and that it will cost €800 to register this new house"

What is this about ? is there not 1 fee for registering a house ?
Am i being taken for a ride due to the fact i have no knowledge in this area?

Anybody with any knowledge on this would be great !

Land Registry fees are scaled, and each case IS different. So it is entirely feasable that this house would mean higher fees. Indeed if the last house was registry of deeds, the difference could well be up to 600 or 700 more.


Why don't you ask for a breakdown, and then cross check?
