Hi,

I am just about to set myself up as a sole trader. I would like to know, if I charge mileage, will it be taxable? Am I better off invoicing a single figure or should I split the invoice into labour and mileage?

Thanks

As far as i know you can charge whatever is agreed with the client.

When it comes to making your tax returns you can only claim an amount exclusively used in connection with your business i.e the petrol used in connection with trip to the client etc (you can't claim the rate per mile etc)

Just put the one figure on the invoice. Its all income to you and will be taxed either way.
There was a previous thread about soletrader not being entitled to claim mileage so maybe you might get the wear and tare of the vehicle(if it is a business vehicle) as an expense against your mileage income.
