SOCIAL WELFARE rent allowance

quick question about rent allowance. Normally with somebody not on rent allowance it is a deposit and first months rent. If somebody is on the rent allowance and moves in on say 1aug they pay the deposit but do social welfare pay pay the first months rent on the 1 aug or do they pay on the 1 sep.Hope this makes sense.

You won't get Rent Supplement on day 1 (i.e. 1st Aug in your example). Rent Supplement isn't paid in advance, it's paid in arrears.
So if Rent Supplement is paid every calendar month, it's paid at the end of the month - August's entitlement would be paid during the last week of August.

There are some backlogs in processing claims as well, so depending on where you live, it may take a while to come through, but it would be backdated.

You need to ignore the fact that they are on RS and treat them like a normal tenant. Deposit and first month in advance please. If you bend the rule they will know you to be a sucker. Search this site, plenty of good advice around this.
