HI folks,

Just have a quick question that hopefully you can help me out with. At the moment I am on a Fás course which is due to end on February 23rd. I have decided that I would like to resit my Leaving Certificate through my local VTOS and this course starts this September, and apparantly you keep all social welfare benefits. However I have never signed on before so can I sign on until September immediatly after I finish the FAS course?

Thanks
James

To qualify for the BTEA sheme (second level), you will have to have been Signing on for at least six months prior to the course satrting. See www.welfare.ie and the leaflet SW70 for more details. You can only sign on if you are available for and genuinely seeking work and they will ask you to prove this. be careful that your application is not seen at just "signing on" to get the qualifying period because, while it is not strictly abusing the system, it is using it!
