My 20 year old daughter is a full-time student, living in an apartment with her boyfriend. They pay €850 per month in rent and she earns about €150 per week from a part-time job. She is getting no social welfare benefits, medical card etc. Is she entitled to anything?

Re: Social welfare benefits

If she is paying tax she is entitled to the rent tax credit and a tax credit for any tuition fees she may pay. Note, this only applies to actual tuition fees not registration fees etc.

Re: Social welfare benefits

I'd imagine she would be eligible for a medical card r a GP visit card.
See here: http/

Maybe you could investigate if she is entitled to a grant?
I think your local county council are the people to go to about that.
I would be interested if you find out any entitlements as I am returning to full time education September.

Thanks for advice. She has applied for a medical card so hopefully that will come through soon. Investigating rent tax credit situation.

most colleges have a free doctor on campus that students can go to. it was in the university i went to anyway.

At 20 her application for a grant is likely to be based on her parent's income.
