'Evening. Does anybody what is the current situation /time scale for the roll out of Smart meters for 3 phase business meters ?
We were promised early 2024 , still no sign. If you ring the ESB 5 times to enquire you'll get 5 different answer ranging from August 2025 to January 2028.
Its a bit like the Children's Hospital at this stage. Many businesses installed solar panels on the basis of being able to sell back to the grid , unfortunately the ESB require the customer to have a smart meter installed to do this. Catch 22 situation. Thanks in advance for any replies/opinions.

There was a professor guy ,Alan Smeaton on with Claire Byrne this morning saying that at a cost of 1.2 billion euros all businesses and residences will have smart meters installed by the end of 2025. That seems to fly in the face of what the ESB are telling businesses .
Interestingly , Alan also said that only 11% of consumers have signed up to smart meter tariffs. By my calculations its costing about €600 per Irish household for something that only a tiny percentage are actually using for what it is designed . His interview is worth a listen back on the RTE Podcast app. I feel there were a number of inaccurracies in what the guy was saying but I'll let you form your own opinion and maybe discuss on here.

Starting in the next couple of weeks

We had our business meter changed in March. Thought it was for a smart meter, but it was part of the final training for the installation team and they simply installed an updated standard meter.

Guy said the smart meters were starting in June.
