Is there a standard size for sliding patio doors?

Someone told me that they are either 6' or 8'

can anyone throw any light on this please

Re: Fixing roller in Sliding patio doors

Has anyone a recommendation on someone who could fix the roller mechanism in my patio doors? They are just extremely stiff and WD40 etc isnt doing much - I need someone who is used to these rolling mechanisms
South Dublin City

thanks

6' or 1800mm would be standard for a sliding patio door, look for them in aluminium instead of uPVC if possible (less troublesome). They can be made to whatever size you want within reason.

The old posts catch us all out.:D

Sam McGuire: if the patio is old and has had a bit of a hard life, it could be that the roller balls need replacing. Over time they can become flat in places and this could account for the stiffness you're describing.

Uncertain how you go about lifting off the sliding door to have a look but I'm sure someone on here will be able to advise you further - don't think it's a difficult job.

Open the sliding door halfway and lift it up, about 1cm of travel, swing bottom out and let back down. The top will come free and thats it, door free.

Put the door on its side and clean out around the rollers. If they are worn you should replace them. A&L Castors in dublin would be a good place to start looking for parts.

A good cleaning and some copper grease should do the job to release and encourage the doors to slide again. Don't forget to clean the runner track removing any grit and dirt that has built up there.

Simply reverse the lift out to get the door back in.
