I have the installation guy coming on Saturday to install Sky.

I was told that he will call me on the day to confirm.

I am concerned that it will come to the end of the day and he will not have turned up.

Anybody have experience of these people?

Thanks!

My recent experience with Sky was very positive. The installer actually rang at about 9pm the night before he was due, and turned up about an hour into the allocated 4 hour window. Very neat and tidy job too - I had heard horror stories about them lashing wires all over the place but he did exactly as I asked him. So glad to be free from those muppets in NTL.

hi delboy,
I have probably had the worst experience with my installer....

it all started on a saturday morning when they rang about an hour before they arrived 10am. they wanted to drill out from under the front room window and have the cable go up to the dish, along the wall. This looks terrible (some houses in the estate done that).
I wanted it as high as possible and the cable coming from the attic. (as you would). he wanted $50 because it was "extra work", i payed (i was hungover from my house warming party & wasnt in a mood to argue)

NOW, this is when the fun began! he put the dish about 20cms on my neighbours property. My neighbour went mad and contacted his solicitor(over reaction).

The installer "lost" my documents, so sky cut me off after 14days, i had a lot of trouble getting re-connected (fees).

Now, i was probably a 1 off...so just a warning to keep an eye on his work.

Good luck

the person who comes to your house will not be working for Sky, but will be an independent contractor....

so they could be a cowboy or a highly professional installer...

as for the $50 , Sky only pay the installer for a basic installation (shortest route from dish to box)... so it would be normal for them to ask for more for a "better" job...

Why did he want to be paid in dollars?

He was going on holidays to NY and asked if i had any dollors handy!!! sarcastic answer for a sarcastic question!
ill be sure to say 50euros in future!

No sarcasm intended. You explicitly said $50 and managed to specifically mention €'s in other posts (e.g. here) so I took your post at face value.

ah come on, wheres your common sense! why would i pay in dollors hahaha..
I thought you were a lot wiser than that clubman!
I sincerely appoligise...

I actually had quite a positive experience with my Sky installation.

Installer phoned before he came on site.
Turned up when he said he was going to.
Put the dish where best it cant be seen at the back of the house.
i chose not to go for the connection to the phone line, so I have no wires running from hall to sitting room.

Installer was very polite, listened to what I wanted, and in the end job looks very neat. All in all very happy. And I might add that I am a fusspot about things like this (especially wires!!!)

Hi - Can I ask why you selected not to have it connected to the phone line? I am planning to have an installation and was planning this route.

Is there a problem? Or is it just the wires etc.

Thanks

I too chose not to connect to the phone line, primarily because for some bizarre reason the previous owners of my house thought it would be a good idea for the only phone line in the house to be upstairs. In order to hook the Sky up to it I would have needed wires running under carpets or through the ceiling. I have no interest in using movies on demand etc. so I decided to pay the once off fee to avoid having to hook to the phone line.

I had a Sky Engineer come to my house recently to install Sky but i just told him to get lost. I was getting Sky+ with Mulitroom and he said that there was no way he could install it without connecting both boxes to my main phone line which is in the hall, some distance away from my two TV's. So he told me i could pay 200 euro to get it without wires, i accepted no problem but after registering me with this he said i could only have Sky on one TV, so to go back to my previous package i had to go through sales again and wait another week for him to come back. I just joined Chorus Digital instead and i have no problems. I was talking to a friend who has Sky+ Multiroom who has no wires running through the house, the Sky boxes are in his shed and a signal is sent to the Tv's. He didnt say weither he payed extra for this. I would still love to get Sky but not with any wires. Is there anything i could do or get to solve this problem?????

No sorry i just want to know if there is a way to get Sky+ Multiroom without connecting to the phone line because of all the wires?!

I chose not to go through the phone line, because my phone socket is in the hall, and I would have had wires running from hall to sitting room.

I dont think I can get pay per view, but dont want it anyway.

Sorry for delayed feedback - Thanks for all the comments.
I must say that my experience was a good one.
They were on time, curteous and carried out a very neat job.
