skip etiquette

I worked with builders years ago that had it nailed. If the skip was empty they would put a step ladder in it and cover the skip and tie it down so it looked full. even when the skip is half full this can be done. I always tie down the cover well on skips when I have had to use them on public ground.

I wouldn't even think twice about removing other people's rubbish. Skips are far too expensive to be paying for other people to get rid of their rubbish. Simple solution, dump other people's rubbish next to skip and inform council about fly-tipping.

We never had this problem. As soon as skip arrived, we would start filling it, and wouldn't stop until the skip was full.

they seemed to have stopped filling it...my brothers made a show of waving up at the camera and shouting can you see me now...i had to laugh!! even though i would have loved to catch someone doing it...its made an impact..but we have been getting funny looks off some of the neighbours since the camera is up, it can only see the rear of my back and over the wall at the skip, but maybe they are giving the funny looks incase they think they have been caught! its glows red at night too for the night vision to work..who knows it might deter possible thiefs and thugs from breaking into cars or more

Well you could do what my neighbours did  and just dump everything on the grass verge outside the house, let it spill onto the path and the road, and when there's enough junk there to fill a skip ask to have one delivered and fill it in one go. Not the way I would do things but at least they have the comfort of knowing that nobody else put so much as a paper clip into their skip.

i don't mind them putting stuff into the skip aslong as they mention if first and so its not filled before i get all the stuff i need to get out into it, after all we are paying for it.

Try tying a canvas sheet / tarp over the skip overnight. Who ever's dumping will want to make a quick in and out mission... the odds of them standing around un-tying a load of knots are slim...
