Skinny white worm in my water

I just filled a bowl of water from my kitchen sink (on the mains).

It is a red plastic bowl so I can see this skinny white worm wriggling around in it. He is alive. I am so disgusted (being vegan does not help).

I will call the council but anyone seen this or know what the bugger may be.
 
Does anybody know how normal this is or should I report it.
Am I being a big baby here.
 
I would suggest putting the worm in a jar of water for a while and if it dies the chances are that it wasn`t in the water supply but more likely to have been in the bowl before you filled it.....just a thought, not saying your home is worm infested!!
 
The Council called me back.

They say that it could not have survived the pressure and the clorine in the system and they suggest that it came from the tank in the attic.

I said that it came from the cold tap in the kitchen and that is connected directly to the mains but he thinks that it could have slithered over.

I will have to accept that as I live in a small town and I know these guys and do not want to make a fuss.

This is a lesson to me.

I am currently building a new house and asked for an attic tank but the builder advised against it for this reason. I think that maybe he was right.

Attic tanks are only used for baths, showers, toilets etc. Not for potable water. That should come directly from whatever supply you have. I'm sure that the DoE building standards/regulations cover this in more detail.

I know but I am squirming at the tought of getting in the shower and shampooing and rubbing some of these guys through my hair. You should have seen how carefully I inspected my toothbrush last night before I put it in my mouth.

If you are concerned about your drinking water you could always get it analysised at an independant laboratory. It costs about €100 for a bacti, chemicals and metals analysis.
