Ive been asked to skim a neighbours living room as the original skim coat is 50 odd years old and with years of them hacking off wallpaper the walls have serious sized lumps taken out of them.
I need advice on the walls have been painted with a matt finish paint.I am only a plasterer with a year under me belt and have done a few nixers but have not been asked to skim a wall which has been painted. Whats the proper procedure to prep a wall that has been painted? Do i just bond it with a very strong mix of bond, do I lash as much water into the wall to kill as much suction in the wall as I can them bond it out.Do I just scrape it to form a key? Or do I do all 3. Im also concerned the paint will act as a barrier between the new skim coat and the old skim coat and the new one will not, dry / finish / take.
Any advice on this would be great, I normally only do nixers for family, but this being the first one for a neighbour I seriously dont want to mess it up, or be getting a call in 3 months saying my walls falling down or cracking or flaking.
Many thanks.
Regards, Conor.
