Hi,

I am in my first permanent role and I am not sure of the standard procedure. I will shortly be finishing my six month probationary period. Should I expect to meet with HR and sign a contract confirming that this period has been completed. If so, would I generally get a performance appraisal at this time.

Thanks

I think it will vary from company to company, I am not sure you will need to meet HR, more likely this will be your Manager. It is likely that there will be some assessment done after the 6 months given to you, however this may not happen.

Also you may not need to sign another contract as it may be in the original one but you should get some confirmation that you have passed your probationary period and are now a permanent member of staff. Best thing is to ask HR or someone else in the company how does it generally work.

or it could be that you don't hear otherwise so can take it that you have now completed your probation. In this instance, ensure that if appropriate your pension entitlements kick in etc.

Or two months later, someone will say "Bugger, we cant get rid of ya now"
Thats how it works in here.:)
