I have a single storey converted garage that needs insulating. It is made of solid blocks and NO insulation! It has a flat roof with an old dome skylight.
Now I have decided to get external wall insulation on 2 walls and internal on one wall. I just cant afford the space loss to do all walls internally. I would be happy to lose the skylight too.
How can I insulate the ceiling/roof?
Can anyone recommend someone in Dublin for external wall insulating?
Re: recomend for Dublin????? External Wall Insulation!
HI Zippe,
i was just going aroud by the blog that i saw your posting and wish to reply to your post. Just remember that do the insulation by highly skilled personal & install them with the manufacturers instructions. The Wall insulation products must also be NSAI Agrement Certified or of approved equivalent standard.
thanks
I have booked a company to fill my cavity block wall (NOT 2 leaf cavity) with pumped foam insulation, which I believe has not been approved by the NSAI. What are the implications of using this product from a legal/standards issue? I think I understand the technical issues.

rather than the legal issues.... think of the practical ones.
They will NEVER fill each and every cavity in these block walls...
The products that they used are not certified for this use. Anyone who purports to do this should be considered a cowboy.

Hi chippengael. I have similar walls to yourself and did a hell of a lot of research (some on AAM) and I'm sorry to say that pumping cavity blocks simply doesn't or cannot work - unless they did the two halves of each block which wouldn't be practical, in any way. It'll be a huge waste of money and you'll have no way of knowing if it was successful!
I haven't decided yet what I'm going to do but I did a lot of research on external wall insulation and it's exteremly expensive. I'm veering very much towards putting insulated plasterboard on the walls and ceilings as the rooms are quite large and I wouldn't lose any room space really. Good luck.

Are the company you've booked from Cork? I phoned a company who were going to come out to give me an idea of what was involved, quotation etc. but I never heard from them again! About a year/year and a half ago. Can't remember the company's name.
