This is for someone trying desperately to get back to work.

If a single parent is able to secure part time work, say two to 3 hours a week in the evening how will this affect a single parent payment. This would be well paid work but not a permanent job. Is it important that the work is done on as few nights as possible or does this not make any difference.

A single parent in receipt of one parent family payment (OPFP) can earn up to €146.50 pw without affecting their entitlement to OPFP. It doesn't matter how the work is spread out.

Thanks Gipipmann I hoped one of you social welfare guys would reply on this. This person is receiving 256 a week plus 177 towards the mortgage interest. So if they earned say 200 how does the payment get reduced, is it Euro for Euro. Also how does it affect the 177 which I understand comes from the CWO. She spoke to her social welfare officer today and he said to wait a few weeks (if she gets the job) to see how the hours are as they will not be regular and you'd have to take into account no pay due to holidays etc and that she could earn 440 before any deductions. This doesn't make sense to me.

OFP: €200 - €146.50/2= €26.75 per week, rounded to €27.00 per week means.

The mortgage interest supplement would be affected.

Her additional income is assessed as -

first 75 euro of wages are disregarded
1/4 of the remainder (125) is disregarded = 31.25

Her means from wages are calculated as 200 - 75 - 31.25 = 106.25. The fact that her OPFP has been reduced would be taken into account, so her Mortgage Supplement would be reduced by 106.25 - 27 (the OPFP means).

If she worked more than 29 hrs per week, her entitlement to Mortgage Interest Supplement would cease as she's considered in full time employment.
