Signpainting (side of van) — any recommendations?

G'day all, just a quick query on behalf of a friend who runs his own business and wants to get the sides of his new van (a Transit, I think) painted with a logo and contact details.
Rather than just pick someone out of the Golden Pages, he was wondering if anyone here could offer a personal recommendation? He's based in Waterford but travels around a fair bit, particularly to Dublin/Wicklow.

Thanks in advance for any tips...

[Edit: Afterthought — maybe I should have put this in "non-financial questions"? Mods, please move if appropriate...]

From what I know, and if possible,

keep the colours without shades, as the simplest process is a machine cutting the letters out from sheets of coloured vinyl. If they have to print shading onto vinyl, it will increase cost.

Get him to superimpose his design on photoshop or other first, as they have a design cost charge, it also allows him to email what he wants, on an image, and get a definative cost.

If possible, avoid lettering or logos crossing over folds on the van. This is a specialist vinyl and adds cost.

Don't bother with fax or email addresses......useless clutter.

Sorry I can't recommend a Dublin supplier.

Cheers, Ocras.

Been doing a bit of idle googling on the topic and am beginning to wonder if it mightn't be worthwhile trying a DIY job? I see places like www.speedysigns.com (and others on eBay) that'll let you upload your own design — which would be handy 'cause I already did up fliers & business cards for him, so have all the graphics & fonts to hand. They also provide a template thingy with typical (U.S.) van models and a 'how-to' guide to applying the things (for which you need only purchase their handy application kit for under $20). All that and shipping to Ireland for $15-odd sounds tempting! (I think he's been quoted in the several hundreds of euro, whereas this way — depending on what he wants exactly — he could get out of it for €150 or so and a Sunday afternoon's work... :)

Interesting site. I played around with the lettering on one side of a van, and find that the costs fairly increase with size of lettering, accessories and delivery.

I'ld say it would be well worth printing out the designs you get from the website and getting quotes from local signmakers.
