shower pump problem

We have a Monsoon 3 bar shower pump which is located in our hot press. Whenever I jump in shower and turn on there is no action. I go out to pump and you can hear a crackling sound and get a burning smell, and the pump body is real hot to touch. Sometimes the pump kicks in and resumes normal service.
Could anyone tell me whats going on? and is it a fix job or new pump required?
Thanks.

Could be new pump required, but first, isolate supply to pump, both electrical and water. Unscrew inlet pipes (two if it is a twin impeller) and you will see a small filter. This could be partially blocked. Remove, clean and re-insert and re-connect.
If this works and the pump is fed by a cold water storage tank in the attic, check for dirt in this, if so, drain down, clean and re-fill (careful not to wash the dirt into the pipe leading to the pump).

From your description it sounds like an electrical issue. I would say there is some sparking leading to the burning smell. This pump will fail soon and is a potential fire hazard. Get it replaced by a competant person immediately.
