Shower leaking after re-tiling

Hi,

I recently had my shower retiled because one of the old tiles had cracked. The shower is a walk in shower with tray and is fully tiled on 3 walls from floor to ceiling. I decided not to get the shower taps replaced. I got a tiler recommended, he did the work and all seemed fine until recently we got water dripping from our living room ceiling while using the shower.

I managed to isolate the issue as being a leak around the area of the shower taps (did this by running the shower continuously with the shower head at the bottom of the shower and there was no leaking until i pointed the shower head at the taps area, then the leaking started almost immediately).

I called the tiler back and he came and said that the issue was that the taps had no back board (or something) fitted that would have stopped the leak (even though before the tile cracked in the first place the shower unit wasnt leaking at all). He then added sealant around the taps, but after retesting the shower 24 hours later the taps were still leaking.

I have been unable to contact the tiler since. I just wanted to get an opinion on whose responsibility it was to fix this. Is it as the tiler said, the fault of the people who fitted the shower in the first place, or is it the tilers responsibility?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Will
