Should redundancy be paid on last day of work?

Being made redundant, last day of work is the 31st of March (i.e. less than 4 weeks away).

We will be paid, have been given proper notice, etc.

Should it be paid on 31st of March? Or more to the point, what should happen if it isn't paid on that date?

Should we expect to get paid for all normal workdays until it is paid? Does it mean that effectively our "finish date" is extended (with reckonable service to be recalculated, etc.) ?

What are the consequences should the company drag its heels and delay payment by say, a month? Six months?
