I bought some shares which were traded in paris through sharewatch and they now tell me that these shares are not held in crest (as i thought they would be ) but in a nominee account ?

Should I sell these shares ?

Why should the way that the shares are held be a determining factor in when to dispose of them?

I am afraid that if sharewatch go bust I will lose my investment similar to what happened with the firm of stockbrokers who went bust in cork a few years back.

What I was intending to do was to sell them and immediately buy back shares that could be held in my name in Crest.

perhaps they cannot be held in Crest. Not all shares can be held in Crest. Crest is a UK company.

I don't think that you can hold non Irish or UK shares in a Crest account.

If you can, ask Sharewatch to transfer them for you.

I have stopped buying continental shares because of these hassles.

The only securities which can be held in Crest are securities which can settle in Crest.
Generally Uk and Irish securities but there are also many many foreign securities which are also 'crest eligible'.
