Should I persist until I get my interview

Hi,

Just looking for some advice. A friend referred me to a guy he knows who owns a company and was looking to employ. The position is something I am really interested in, I have no doubt I could fill the role, and I have sort of set my hopes high on getting it.
Problem is I cannot get the guy to commit to an interview.

He called me on a thursday and we spoke for 25 mins on the phone, he explained what he was looking for and I feel I gave him a good delivery on the phone of my skills and why I would be good for the position. He seemed very agreeable and positive. I sent my CV and he mailed to acknowledge receipt.

One whole week passed without hearing anything.

The following week I mailed him to ask if the position had been filled or was he still reviewing applications, he said that he was busy at the time but still wanted to meet with me if I was still interested in the job and that he would be in touch.

That was a week and a half ago! and still no word.

do I mail him again? Would this been seen as over eager and desperate?
or do I just leave it well alone and hope and pray he contacts me...

what would be the most professional approach?

This may be a bit subjective but I have a gut feeling that the professional thing to do generally would be to contact him by phone when appropriate rather than emailing him about this.

each individual is different so there maybe alot of different views on this. Personally, i would give it one last quick email. something along the lines.... "dear xxxx i was wondering if u have made any decisions yet as reqards the positon available with your co? my reason for asking is im off next week (give him a day) and it would be great to tie the meeting in with this date, blah blah blah"...

or as CM says - a phone call might be more professional, yes

you have nothing to lose. why not? it will show your enthuaism (<-- spelt wrong) if nothing else.

then again he might be the type of person that gets annoyed easily. only you can judge him on that! is he male? haha

I don't want to put him on the spot by ringing and saying, Hi its me, any date for an interview etc. If I disturb him when he's busy, or catch him off guard, it might just annoy him. And yes he is male so don't want to challenge him into doing 2 things at once either ;-)

So, I think I'll go with one more mail and see what happens. Make an enthusiastic, I'm up for an interview one...I am finding it hard with the job hunt until this is out of the way.

yes, always a tough challenge. (you do know that might open a whole new thread??? the men in here are very sensitive)

Hi SS,

well took your advice and sent a mail, got an apology and an interview date...thank God!

he said he had scheduled interviews for a day in the coming weeks but he's meeting with me next week before the other candidates so the mail worked.
