Hi,

Does anyone know is it more efficient to have your heating turned on low all the time or is it better to have the thermostat turned up higher but only turn it on now & again? We use home heating oil?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks

All depends on how quickly your home looses heat. You could heat up water for a cup of tea once, place it in a thermos and it will be hot all day. The energy required to head a substance, namely the water feeding your radiators, is constant per degree.
Your boiler may be more effecient when warmed up, so leaving it on low, then cranking it up when you really want to may be the solution. Maybe it's time to invest in a programable thermostat? My one is set to come on in the mornings, then cool off while at work, then on again in the evenings, with different settings for the weekend.

Consider thermostats on the rads themselves for individual room control.

But you should really check on insulation........ remember the cup of tea

You need to ventilate your house along with heating it. Its not a good idea to keep the windows closed all the time. Its not healthy either.
