Setting Up Wep

I have a BT voyager 2100 from Utv. Got the network key from marx computers

Trying to set up WEP using the below

However Cannot seem to do it as need something to insert on network keys

What I have is the below

Anyone point me in the right direction. Tried Network Magic but it does not support this router

What do I have to do to secure it or is there anything else

Thats right. I have exactly the same router and there is a higher level of security possible with it - WPA-PSK. Anyways, refer to the manual. Its no harder to setup than wep. It can be cracked but it takes a considerable amount of time to do so. Unless you've got something really really important stuck on your hard drive, nobodys going to be bothered going to that effort.

If you havnt managed to set it up by 8pm this evening, pm me. I might be able to help you out (cant at the moment due to work).
 
All I have at the mo is hide the signal

Its your network adapter on your pc/wireless card in your laptop thats looking for the network key right?

You have to set this up in the routers settings. Go to the address bar in your internet browser. Type http://192.168.1.1/ - this should get you to the authentication popup for the router. Then key in the login/password. I *think* the default is admin / admin ?? (someone correct me if wrong) - if you don't know, refer to manual/docs. I wouldnt bother with hiding the ESSID/network though...at least not till its all setup properly. In fact with WPA-PSK theres not much need. Check the instructions - get to the menu where you can setup WPA. It will ask you to input a network key of a certain number of digits. When thats done, go to your control panely -> think its network connections? -> then wireless connections -> there should be something to the effect of 'scan for wireless networks' (or the icon may well be bottom right of your screen in the taskbar). Click connect to the particular wireless connection. Then it will ask you to input the network key.
I'm quite sure i've left bits out -> but thats the general gist of it.

Yeah as per the pics above wireless, wireless2, wireless3

The network adapter is plugged into my desktop pc and I do not know how to configure it

Tried the below and then could not connect. Did not specify on the router configuration how many characters the network key is on the login 192.168.1.1

also tried wpa

Have not tried it using my laptop as that has built in key so dont need to configure that me thinks just the on my desktop

Maybe I'm picking this up all wrong but I can't see how your laptop would have a 'built-in' key. You have to setup wpa-psk on the router first - and set a key (theres a stipulation on how many digits it needs to be. If you cant find that, then mine has ten - so set one up with ten (naturally, write it down somewhere if you think theres a chance of forgetting it).

The other thing you can do is ring BT tech support and they will talk you through it. You should know that you will have to wait on hold for 10 minutes first -then leave your number and wait for up to a couple of hours for them to ring back (it could be sooner of course)!
 
When I turn on the laptop it picks up signal straight but for my desktop I have a wireless adapter plugged into a USB port

Will try and put in a ten character login and see. I can do the changing on the router settings its just the settings on the adapter are buggering me up and I keep on have to reset the router
