Sensor Alarms Versus Window/Door Bracket Alarms

Hi all,

We're currently having our house wired and the electrician wants to know if we are going to have a sensor security alarm or a shock sensor (which is where brackets are applied to the windows and doors). Does anyone have any suggestions as to which one is more effective, what are the pro's and con's of each? Thanks for your help.

I recently had one fitted, also during a re-wire, and knew nothing about it so took what the alarm guys gave me. Basically all the downstairs doors and windows are contact alarms, whereby if they are opened at all the alarm goes off. The upstairs windows can be opened gently without the alarm going off - if they are banged at all the alarm goes off. This is working out as a good setup as you can, say, open the bathroom window without setting off the alarm. Of course this would depend on whether any of your upstairs windows are easily accessible from outside, which none of mine are.

So I suppose the short (too late) answer is get the electrician to wire for an alarm and get an alarm specialist to fit it, they will advise you for your specific situation. As far as I know the wiring is the same from the electrician's point of view (I am open to correction on this, in my case it was the electrician who got in the alarm people).
