semi solid walnut floor ?

I have been looking at putting down a semi solid walnut floor in a dining area. It is mainly a dark floor with some light sections in it. The shop is telling me that it is a good hard wearing floor and easy to keep, but I met someone who has told me it scratches easily and that you can see them in the dark wood much easier than the light. Has anyone put down this type of floor? How does it stand up to wear and tear ? What other options is there for a hard wearing wooden floor ? I am taking out a carpet as I am sick of hovering. Are wooden floors in general easy to keep is it just a sweep and a light mop to keep it clean.

I have walnut semi-solid done since November and it's still looking great.

Not a sign of a scratch and given the diy going on in the room it's been very well tested.

We've had a solid walnut floor in our hall since we moved into our house 6 years ago. It's still in good nick, but (and i don't know if thuis is different with the semi-solids) it was quite knotty, and the better half popped a small knot out with a high heel once, so there's a small little hole near the front door and a new rule about high heels in the house....

in terms of maintenance, a quick sweep and take up the pile with a dustpan or hoover keeps them looking good.

I have a solid acacia floor ( a type of walnut) and it is very dark and very beautiful, however as it is so dark it shows up dirt quite easily. Light coloured fluff , crumbs etc. I had a french oak floor previously which showed up less dirt but changed colour from the sun to a nasty yellowy pine colour. My floor now has a good few scratches but I try not to be too precious about it and a mop and a bit of floor polish brings it up beautifully.
