Self Employed to PAYE - Advice on New Employer Suspicions

hi

i have been self employed for a few years, but have never completed a self assessment form, and hence have never paid any tax.

i have recently been offered a paye job.

how do i go about registering with revenue so that my new employer doesn't find out that i have never paid tax? is it the case that if i fill out 12a then my new employer will just get details of my annual tax credits and be none the wiser (ie are the tax systems segregated)?

would really appreciate any advice... in dire straights
