I have recently left my job and while between jobs am doing some project work. In order to stay onside with taxman I will need to make an earnings declaration and end of year, however, I am not certain of what level of expenses I am entitled to write off, eg, is there a daily food allowance that I can legitimately write off without receipts? also is there an overnight allowance working in the same way, I am lead to belive that there is but remain sceptical. Can anyone clarify? thanks

As far as I know you can only write off expenses incurred directly in relation to your work. For example self employed people cannot normally write off their breakfast or lunch expenses any more than PAYE workers can. You really should get independent, professional advice on this. At the very least browse around the Revenue website to find information relevant to self employed workers.
