My old sofa is in perfect condition. It was covered for years, placed in the sitting room and never sat on as I always hung out in the kitchen. Now theres a missus on the scene we decided it's the wrong color and does'nt fit into ur decorating plans.

I am reluctant to throw it out . In fact I absolutely refuse to as it cost over a grand originally. Can anyone advise if theres a retailer who would accept it as a trade in as part payment for a new sofa ? Failing a good way of extracting value from it I guess I'll be stuck with it for ten years as it just does'nt look like it will ever wear out.

I would say that you are stuck with it. I never heard of trading in a sofa. It will last a lot more that ten years if no one sits on it.

Maybe buy a nice throw and put it over it or look at good quality covers. You could always get it recovered although this can sometimes be nearly as expensive as buying a new one. These people are good [broken link removed] If its comfortable seems a terrible waste to get rid of it.

Put it on Donedeal.ie

Thanks I will at the very least try to gauge its worth there

Thanks Sue Ellen, I heard there were nice white covers in Ikea. The real issue however is the sofa I have is too large and the wrong shape . Ideally we should have an L - Shaped sofa for our sitting room but mine is a standard large sofa plus 2 armchairs.

Don't think a sofa is worth causing an issue about. Sell the sofa or give it away if it doesn't fit, you are going to take a big loss on it and there is no two ways about it.

You've had 10 years of sofa whether you sat on it or not so the cost is really only 100 a year.

I would be interested in knowing if any sofa retailers remove old sofa when customers buy a new one. I'd imagine it would be good for business.

I bought a new sofa and armchair 2 years ago, and the retailer took my old one away....for €50 extra.

Cheaper than a skip though!
