This question is for a friend of mine.
Her husband is a PAYE worker here. There is an opportunity for him to be seconded to another EU country for 9 months to 1 year. He would be working for an EU Institution there.
My friend is a Stay-at-Home-Parent with 3 kids. She and the kids would be staying here. Her husband would be financially supporting them. His Accommodation etc plus monthly travel expenses home will be covered by the Foreign Employer.
As her Husband would be working for an EU Institution he would be paying a lower rate of Income Tax (16%).
Her questions are - what are the Tax Implications for them here ? Will he still have to pay Irish Income Tax at 41% (and get a credit for the 16% paid) ? Will he have to do a Tax Return in Ireland ? He is currently PAYE . And does it make a difference that he will be sending money home every month to financially support his family.
His salary is roughly the same here as there so the lower Tax would be the thing that would make it worthwhile.
