Secondary Teacher

Hi, I am considering returning to college to do a HDip and hopefully become a secondary school teacher.

Approximately what are the starting salaries for secondary teachers?

See www.education.ie for the current rates. Remember teachers are also entitled to allowances for their qualifications - degree, MA, HDip, whatever.

You do know that it is very difficult to get onto the Dip, some people have to apply 3 or four times. Then when you qualify, it is almost impossible to get a full time, permanant job (even in schools where the kids would give you a mental breakdown) and you wont get any allowences for Masters unless you are permanant or twt.
