Hello all,
I am wondering does anyone out there have any information or advice as to how I might be able to become a teacher in a secondary school with my current qualifications.
Teaching is something I was always interested in doing but never pursued. Information technology was the sector to get involved in when I completed my Leaving certificate. I pursued this and achieved a 2nd class honours degree in Information Technology for business. Following my career I worked in Tech support, Internet/Intranet developement and hosting along with numerous other areas in the IT sector.
Work got hard to come by a few years later as there was a hugh slump in the IT sector. Work would have been available if I travelled but this was not an option for me as I am a single parent and my son comes first. I ended up getting a job out of desperation with a local building contractor. After sometime I decided to do a carpentry apprenticeship which I thoroughly enjoyed. Today I am one of the lucky ones who still has work in construction as the whole building sector is now at an all time low.
I need some security in my life and would like the opportunity to be able to teach at secondary level or third level.
-Is it true that there now is a subject in secondary school called Woodwork Technology?
-Would it be possible for me to teach at secondary level with my current qualifications and if not what other qualifications would I need?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
