my parents just got a wooden floor solid oak and today they were moving furniture and a stone put a big scrape in it. is there any kind of wood filler type thing they can get to save having to replace that section of floor?

Re: scratch in solid wood veneer flor

You could sand that board till the scratch goes than varnish over it.

Failing that sand and re-finish the whole floor.

There are scratch removers in places like Stillorgan Decor and MRCB you could try them.

think they are hoping for something you can buy in diy shop having spent a fortune getting it fitted

Hi

You can get repair kits with colour matches for stained wood at larger DIY stores.

Deep scratches will need to be filled using one of these kits or you can use wax to fill the scrape, and then rub with fine steel wool, and polish.

For minor or shallow scratches you can fill the scratch using a child's crayon which matches the colour then buff to a polish. On a stained floor, if the scratch is on the surface, you might also get away with just a bit of stain rubbed in to disguise the scratch.
