school allowance - moved out of home

Hi,

My niece has recently moved out of her family home and is living with her grandparents. She is paying rent every week.
I have queried about rent allowance and am waiting on a response.
She is doing her leaving cert this year and is working part-time.
I have heard of a school allowance for second level pupils living out of home.
Has anyone any experience of this ??

your local community welfare officer should be able to advise you of this payment. I hope you get some help for her, leaving cert students have enough on their plates besides worrying about paying rent. I wish her well.

Are your niece's grandparents on Social Welfare? If so, they may be able to claim for her as a child dependant.

grandfather is on fàs scheme while claiming welfare and grandmother has part-time job. 3 hours 5 mornings a week.
