Scam: Questionnaire to find out when house will be empty

I noticed this over on politics.ie and thought it deserved a wider audience. In the right hands this could be done quite subtly, so as many people as possible should be aware of the dangers.

I've heard about break ins at housing estates at a time when the usual occupants are away on holiday. Previous to the break ins , somebody was going from door to door with a questionaire trying to act all official and with authority. Like spam email theres always a few who fall for it. One of the questions sneaked into the questionaire was something like: ''Considering the recession do you plan to take any holidays this year and when?"
