Scaffolding

I have started a build (2,600 sq ft) in the mid-west area and will be starting the roof in the coming weeks. I will need to provide scaffolding for the carpenter - I will also need it for the plasterer.

I am going to need it for at least 5 or 6 months - has anyone here actually bought their scaffolding as opposed to hiring it out ? Would people have saved money that way ?

Does anyone know the prices involved - i.e. how much it would cost to hire out scaffolding ? Or how much it would cost to buy it, either 2nd hand or new ?

Thanks!

At a guess, I'd say it'd cost you 1200 up/down, and about 175/week thereafter. That'd be Eur5500 for the time you're talking about, + VAT.

Why do you need it for so long ??

check out the buy ans sell, or the local press, loads of scaff looking to be off loaded at the minute. It is something that you will always sell on. I assume your builder has his on site for the walls? Could ask him?
If you think you'll need it for 4-5 months then add a month or too...!

Best of luck

i just took down the lot from mine, 2600 sq foot two storey, put it up last june and was up till last month, so i think your better off buy it and leave it up till last.. even just to have it going around cleaning the windows is handy,, once its hired your watching the euros rise every week.

How much did it cost you Clonboy and how much do you expect to be able to resell it for?

Hi,
I would say do not buy scaffolding unless you get it very cheap. Scaffolding prices vary on the demand for it. Therefore worth nothing at present. Speak to a builder and see if he would rent it to you for 6 months. Agree price. That the way i done it. no worry about rental per week. Roofing facia boards etc etc and paint before taking down. Also I heard recently that the heavy scaffolding doe no longer meet EHS regulations. Dont ask me to clarify what type as I do not know. But be careful about buying scaffolding that does not meet current EHS regulations. Difficult to sell on. New scaffolding-- forget it. no market for any type at present.

Those prices are about right. It's an expensive must have for a house build. When asking builders for quotes I also asked if they supplied their own scaffolding.

My plasterer and Roofer agreed to share their scaffolding for 4 months and kindly rented it to me for €600. All I had to do was bring it to and from the site, they put it up and took it down. They were local tradesmen and glad of the work.
