I didn't see the show but anything that Brendan O' Connor says shouldn't surprise anyone. The guy is a total embarrassment to the wonderful people of Cork.

That's the real mystery.
I only ever watch the Late Late when my Mother in Law is visiting. Saw it last Friday. I feel a little piece of me died from the experience. It truly is woeful and begging to be let die.
I can't see how Tubridy can be happy doing it. Someone should be brave enough to call time.

I agree. I think the Late Late should have been allowed to die quietly when Gay Byrne retired and be remembered fondly as a great programme.
Also, I don't understand why RTE are so determined to have a second weekend chat show on a Saturday night as well. Have they no imagination. There must be lots of other things they could put on at that time.

Absolutely - both are dreadful shows, and they seem to be unable to consider any other options.
Personnally, I like a good chat show, only trouble is, I'm not sure there are any on in Ireland. Tubridy is too soft and has too many guests on the show, hence the interviews are too short and if one of them gets interesting, it ends too quickly so some non-entity z list celebrity with a book to plug can be wheeled on.
The election was an opportunity to transform chat shows in Ireland, personally, I'd have loved to have seen the party leaders get a 1-2 hour 1 on 1 interview from someone who knows their stuff, someone who wouldn't take the usual bumpf from the leaders, find out more about them on a personal level and also drill down into what they want to do.
As for O'Connor, all I can say is that it's cheap television for RTE to produce

Chat shows work best on radio where there is less pressure on time and the interviewers tend to have much more of a chat rather than the tv format of a list of questions. For example Off The Ball (Newstalk sports show) have had some brilliant interviews that simply strayed into discussion on things completely unrelated to the sportspersons career and gave fascinating insights.
TV chat shows are no more than a PR machine for anyone wanting to plug a book or some such.

!Those programmes are so scripted and governed by PR caveats, there's F all spontaneity.
