I am thinking of switching to satellite for TV. Just wondering what is subtitle support like for foreign language?
If anyone has satellite setup could they check if they can get english subtitles for french station TV5?

According to the website it should work I just wanted a live test before switching. Thanks

Afraid I don't have a dish pointed at Astra 1 so can't test it, however I did notice TV5 specifically mention they offer English subtitles on their website. http://www.tv5monde.com/cms/chaine-francophone/mkg/p-23396-lg3-English-subtitled-Programmes.htm

Just to be aware with a basic setup, if you're pointing your dish at Astra 1, you won't be able to access the mainly English speaking channels (BBC, ITV, C4 etc) on Astra 2. There are more expensive options though which will accommodate both simultaneously

Btw, TV5 is available online on their website: https://europe.tv5monde.com/en/live Looks like it has a subtitle option. The news was on when checked which didn't have subtitles (in either English or French), but I suspect prerecorded programmes would show them.

They certainly broadcast subtitles, so you should be fine. You can get multi-focus dishes that you could have LNBs pointed simultaneously at Astra 1 & 2.
