sand for children's sand box

Had a plastic sand box with lid for the kids last year including the bags of sand purchased from Smyths. Told to put the lid on each night so to keep the sand OK i.e. no rats etc pi$$ing in the sand.

Want to make larger sand box in the garden this year and I have a load of washed sand at the front of the house (purchased for a stone wall that is on hold)

It there any problem with using this sand for the lids to play in ? plus the fact it will not be covered at night ?

I'd cover it - it'll become a giant litter tray for every moggie for half a mile...

Had not thought about the "solids" !!!

No dogs locally but I'm sure there are other natives that will use the "sand toilet"..
